Imagine this: the lockdowns are finally over, and you get to host your own party. Everything is going wonderful until… you served a bland wine. Maybe a wine cooler could help.
Everyone has experienced it at least once in their lives—serving a bad wine that was good just a couple of moments ago. Surprising, isn’t it?
Here’s the catch, it’s not the wine. It could be your fridge or cooler. That’s why if you want to host exciting parties and dinners, it’s essential to know all about wine coolers.
Do you need a wine cooler?
As you all know, wines are better as they age. And if you think that wine aging is only about time, then you’re wrong.
Scientists have proven that extreme cold is as bad as extreme heat when it comes to wine aging. It slows down the process by almost 30%.
This means that even though you’ve been keeping a bottle for over a year already on your fridge, it might still not achieve the strong yet sultry taste that you’re expecting.
Furthermore, this 30% measurement is at the average rate of 35°-38° F. If you’re also using your fridge as a freezer with a temperature that ranges from 33°F and below, it can even further slow down the aging process.
Worse, wine freezes at 20°F! This won’t just ruin the overall consistency of the drink, but it may even damage the bottle itself.
Surely, you wouldn’t want to add ice cubes to your glass as they will definitely dilute the flavor of your favorite wine.
This is why it’s essential to have a wine cooler. It will keep your wine at the ideal temperature of around 41°F- 64°F which will allow you to serve your wine at the ideal temperature without affecting its aging process during storage.
Furthermore, it allows you to get more bottles of wine since you don’t have to worry about the limited space on your fridge. It also makes a good decoration for your kitchen.
What should you be looking for in a wine cooler?
The first thing that you have to look for in your wine cooler is the temperature it can maintain despite full and prolonged use. Just like we mentioned, it’s best to look for a wine cooler that has a range of 41°F- 64°F.
If you’re aiming for a large wine cooler that can hold at least 10 bottles, it’s best to look for one that has dual cooling zones.
This means that the cooling mechanism won’t just come from one section. This ensures that all of your bottles will get the desired temperature.
Next, make sure that your wine cooler is air-sealed. This is because drastic changes in the humidity of the cooler will also affect the quality of your wines.
As much as possible, look for a wine cooler that is lit by blue LED lights. Not only will it look visually appealing, but it also helps balance the temperature inside the cooler.
So, will you be getting your own wine cooler? Remember that no matter how expensive your wine will be, if you won’t be able to store it properly, it will just be another bland wine.
